PromptBox

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 7, 2026

1. Overview

Thank you for choosing PromptBox. Your privacy is critically important to us. PromptBox is designed as a local-first browser extension. This means your personal data, prompt configurations, tag lists, and fill history are kept entirely under your control on your local machine.

2. Data Collection and Transmission

We believe in absolute data minimization. PromptBox behaves according to the following rules:

  • No Server Side Storage: We do not host servers to receive or store your prompts. All data is written locally on your computer.
  • No Data Transmitted: We do not track, collect, upload, or sell your information, browsing patterns, or any input text to ourselves or any third party.
  • No Third-Party Trackers: There are no analytics libraries, advertisement networks, or diagnostic tracking trackers embedded in PromptBox.

3. Permissions Explained

To deliver its core features, PromptBox requests specific extension permissions. Here is a transparent breakdown of what they are used for:

  • storage: Required to save your prompt templates, tag associations, and variables usage history onto your browser's secure local disk (via chrome.storage.local).
  • sidePanel: Allows PromptBox to display its workspace management UI directly in the side panel of your Chrome browser for easy access.
  • contextMenus: Enables the "Add to PromptBox" right-click context menu option when you highlight text on any webpage.
  • scripting & activeTab: Used solely to inject your configured prompt text directly into the actively focused text areas or input boxes on web pages when you click the "Insert" button. No page scripts are run without your command.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is saved inside your browser's local sandbox profile using chrome.storage.local. Because your data remains on your physical hardware, the security of your prompts is protected by your browser's sandbox and your operating system's overall security. We recommend keeping your web browser updated to the latest version.

5. Children's Privacy

Our extension does not collect any personal data. It is safe for use by anyone, including children, as no data is stored outside the local sandbox environment.

6. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Since the extension runs locally, any future changes will continue to respect your data privacy and local-first architecture.
